thomas, vielhauer & associates, inc. (tva) was founded in 1993 with a vision to be different. After working with traditional retained search firms we wanted to create a model and team that worked closely with human resources and hiring supervisors to find the best talent in the world.
Our partners have a combined experience of 40 years. We pride ourselves on working with a select number of clients in each industry so we can truly be an extension of your staff, thoroughly know your culture and recruit with few hands-off limits. The result is the delivery of the best possible talent to fit into your organization structure and culture today and become your leaders for tomorrow. Our track record of placements who have moved to SVP/VP levels is consistent.
It was our vision to build a search firm that is high touch, flexible and with a regular flow of weekly updates on progress to our clients. In addition, we built a unique model of search and encourage our clients to hire multiple candidates at no additional cost. The model is responsive to client needs and encourages both cost savings and valued partnerships of both clients and candidates.

sue thomas
Sue has over 30 years experience in Human Resources including 14 years as the founding partner in her own executive search firm. Known earlier as sue thomas and associates, the firm quickly grew and evolved to thomas, vielhauer and associates, inc. (tva). Over time, Sue has consistently worked within retail, manufacturing, financial services, ecommerce, pharmaceuticals and non-profit industries. With a focus on results, she has led tva to a reputation of quality, timeliness and results.
Prior to establishing tva Sue was with Dayton Hudson/Target in the Mervyn’s subsidiary in progressively responsible positions including Director Human Resources supporting all corporate Human Resources, centralized staffing and distribution centers. Sue then moved to Esprit de Corps leading Human Resources as Vice President. In 1993, Sue founded her search business.
Within her corporate roles, Sue placed senior and mid level executives in human resources, design, merchandising, distribution, marketing, retail, supply chain, finance, legal, IT, and the executive suite. She supported global businesses by placing talent to meet corporate goals.
Sue holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resources and Organization Development from the University of San Francisco.
emmaly vielhauer
Emmaly joined thomas, vielhauer & associates, inc. (tva) in 1994 as an Associate and was named Partner in 1997. Over her career at tva her search practice has included clients in retail, apparel, catalog, healthcare, non-profit, financial services, ecommerce and pharmaceuticals.
Emmaly has placed talent in positions in design, product development, merchandising/category management, real estate, architecture, human resources, finance and marketing. With a passion for the perfect fit, Emmaly enjoys being an extension of our clients’ staff to place top talent.
In addition to her search work, Emmaly has led the firm’s technology capabilities including the building and managing of our proprietary database. The development of research-based strategies and focused search is the heart of our business and a key element of our success. Emmaly continues to lead a team who carefully manages the process of building each strategy around the customer’s particular needs and culture, and as a result, tva identifies and delivers quality candidates who demonstrate a track record of success.
Prior to joining tva Emmaly worked in the pharmaceutical business for Parke-Davis (now Pfizer) and for Mervyn’s. A native of California, Emmaly earned a BS in Business Administration from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo and a MBA from St. Mary’s College.
